My Face Is Dry. I Try To Not Use Any Cosmetic Products, But I Find I Always Need Moisturizer. Any Thoughts?

I don’t like being dependent on chemicals. My philosophy is that our ancestors lived without them, & the human body was designed to live without them, so any apparent need we have for chemicals is caused by modern culture–and who knows what chemicals do to us in the long run? I’ve stopped using shampoo & found that I don’t need it. I use a one-ingredient (saponified safflower oil) soap to avoid odor. I use the soap as a shaving cream as well, but I avoid soaping my forehead because–though it is the mildest soap I’ve ever used–it still slightly dries my skin. I use a shower filter to remove the drying chloramine present in the tap water. I try to eat a couple grams of omega 3 fatty acids a day & not too much salt for general health & to prevent dry skin. But still, I find I can’t live without facial moisturizer–otherwise my skin, even on my forehead, which is never exposed to any cosmetic products, gets dry & flaky. Why might my skin still be dry?

Apply almond oil for 15 mins before sleeping n then just wipe it off with a damp cloth n sleep. U can do this twice a day n during day u can wash it with the usual face wash or cleanser u use. Even i go the natural way n i truly respect our ancestors. Im on yahoo to tell people that we can get anything from nature. Good that u atleast realise the importance.

1] Because you are using bar soap on your face
2] some people have drier skin than others
3] we live mostly indoors with central heating – very drying
4] our ancestors lived without chemicals? They also lived without soap up to a period of time [ which I do not recommend ]
5] people have used toiletries since before Jesus’ time!
6] Everything function of our body is dependent on chemicals! Breathing, digesting food, excreting wastes, procreation – shall I go on?
7] skin also gets drier as we get older
a] buy an organic face wash for dry skin, & a moisturizer as well. Sunscreen would also be good.
b] bar soap is not designed for hair – it probably smells bad, & feels coarse
c] take vitamins with minerals, as well as omega oils
d] get a humidifier for your house
e] drink at least 1/2 gallon of water a day; & avoid caffeine, alcohol, & artificially flavored drinks

I have seriously dry skin & I used to be bothered by the senitivity on my cheeks, nose, & scalp not so much anymore. I use baby oil before i shower or bath on my scalp & face. The baby oil will hold in moisture & then before i go to bed I use Vaseline on my face, that helps keep in more water on my face.

Our ancestors didn’t have as many mirrors & they cared more about surviving then if their face looked dry or not. Try drinking more water. Although any water you drink might be cleaned by manmade chemicals.

Your dryness is probably due to a couple things, genetics & possibly weather. Depending on where you live there may not be a lot of moisture in the air, it may be cold & that causes dryness as well. Instead of using chemicals to help out have you thought of trying homeade products? Once a week you can apply a smooshed up avocado like a mask on your face. Avocado’s are very moisturizing, a little olive oil wouldn’t hurt either. Try rinsing your face with milk also. Good luck.

Wash your face & skin by mixing quick cook oatmeal–any generic brand is fine–with warm water. When the mix is soft, rub your skin & gently rub your face as well. Do this in the shower so you can wash leftover oatmeal down the drain. This will cleanse your skin & leave it smooth feeling.
Apply Aloe to moisturize after you pat your skin dry. Aloe will fit your needs as a natural moisturizing product.
Olive Oil is another excellent choice for a moisturizer.
Search online @ purecastilesoap.com. *My personal favorite is Pure Olive Oil Castile Liquid Soap made from the highest quality certified virgin olive oil. Moisturizes with naturally retained glycerin. No animal testing, no animal ingredients, no artificial coloring, no preservatives are used.
Use: wherever a mild cleanser is needed: facial cleaner, baby wash, shampoo, shower, hand cleaner, body wash, mild laundry soap.
THIS will will cover many of your cleansing needs as well!!
If your hair needs clarifying, mix apple cider vinegar with warm water, apply to your hair, & rinse clean. It is an excellent non-drying facial rinse. Apple cider vinegar has multiple uses that will take too long to explain. Google for more info.
Google for baking soda as well.
Kiss My Face Whitening Toothpaste uses soothing Certified Organic Aloe Vera combined with a blend of natural whiteners to create a toothpaste that leaves your mouth feeling fresh. Contains Aloe Vera, Silica (natural whitener), Icelandic Moss (natural whitener), Peppermint (natural flavor), Horse Chestnut (for healthy gums), Tea Tree Oil (cleansing & antiseptic), & Menthol. It contains no animal ingredients, artificial colors, or unnecessary chemicals & were not tested on animals.
If we maintain personal hygiene, we feel good about ourselves & improve our self-image.
Others are happy to be in our presence & gain a favorable impression of us.
These are important factors for being successful in life.
We only improve our personal habits when we have respect for ourselves & for what we are doing in life.
The issues of cleanliness & of progress in the modern world are interrelated.

It’s almost impossible to get all the chloramine out of the water. Please see http://www.chloramine.org for more information.
